In the fall of 1997 I start engraving and discovered high relief, sculpted engraving with a gold inlaid background. To me it has always been the epitome of scroll work engraving. It has taken me 21 years of engraving and gradually taking steps to get to this point. Last August I was able to spend two weeks with Alain Lovenberg, a Belgium engraver that gave me the insight and tools to execute the work. The journey is not over, but rather just beginning. On these spurs I wanted to start with a commonly seen style and then with the decorations separate them into a place of their own. By inlaying 24kt gold in the background of the sculpted leaves I certainly made them different. The West loves elegance too and I think it fits. It doesn’t matter whether you drive a luxury car or ride a good looking horse, most people enjoy and appreciate quality. My goal is to bring that to our Western culture.
